This Thanksgiving, I was not hosting dinner and was instead invited to a friend’s home for dinner, which made my holiday much less hectic (phew!). I was charged with bringing a couple side dishes and of course a cocktail! So, since I wasn’t cooking a whole dinner, I had plenty of time to perfect my cocktail.
Fall and winter seem to bring some of the best seasonal beers, one of my favorite being N’Ice Chouffe by one of my favorite breweries, Brasserie d’Achouffe. N’Ice Chouffe is a dark spiced Belgian beer – well technically for the beer snobs, it’s a Belgian strong dark ale.
In case you hadn’t noticed…it’s fall! And that means, until Christmas takes over, all food stuff is all about pumpkin, including beer! I recently did a pumpkin beer tasting and selected my favorite pumpkin beer as my beer of the month. In doing the taste test though, I also tried making a pumpkin beer float with some of the non-winners, and the results were amazing.
FYF Fest, my how you’ve grown. I remember you back in 2005 (your second year, I believe) when you were just a charmingly cobbled together free festival in Echo Park. I wandered up and down Sunset Boulevard to various venues, merrily clutching a 40 of Mickeys in a paper bag seeing bands like The Dillinger Four, Mojo Filters and Toys that Kill. Thankfully, we’ve both grown a bit since then.
