Listen Up! September 2012

Sep 3rd

For this month’s playlist I compiled some songs that I’ve been enjoying as of late.  They’re mostly new releases, with a couple of tracks thrown in there that came out earlier this year that I’m just discovering or circling back to.

I’m especially excited about the new Cat Power album based on the first single off of it, “Ruin.”  I checked out the whole album on NPR’s First Listen and it sounds promising after one spin.  I’m also liking alt-J just because I can’t make sense of what/who they are, but I know that I like it.  I’ll be seeing them live in Los Angeles later this month, so I’ll report back.

One album that I can’t get enough of is Poolside’s Pacific Standard Time.  Seriously, the whole album could’ve been this month’s playlist, I’m that obsessed.  I don’t think there’s a bad track on the album.  They do an amazing cover of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” which I didn’t feature on this month’s playlist mainly because I eventually want to do a playlist of my favorite covers…stay tuned.

As Bugs Bunny says, that’s all folks.  Now go turn up the music.
