In case you hadn’t noticed…it’s fall! And that means, until Christmas takes over, all food stuff is all about pumpkin, including beer! I recently did a pumpkin beer tasting and selected my favorite pumpkin beer as my beer of the month. In doing the taste test though, I also tried making a pumpkin beer float with some of the non-winners, and the results were amazing.
For people that don’t like pumpkin beer, I challenge you to try it in a beer float because I think you might be swayed. On its own, pumpkin beer may just be too artificial tasting for some (even though I don’t agree with this), but in a float it shines – all that artificialness is embraced when you couple it with ice cream. Plus, not only is this beer float appropriately seasonal and delicious, it’s a super easy dessert (or is it a cocktail – you decide) to make for guests.
So, here you have it, a pumpkin beer float…
Ingredients (for one float)
- One bottle of pumpkin beer of your choice (I use Kennebunkport Brewing Company (KBC) Pumpkin Ale, which is sold at Trader Joe’s)
- Pumpkin Ice Cream (I use Trader Joe’s variety, but Dreyer’s makes a good one too)
- Ground Nutmeg
- Small Beer Glass or Other Small Glass
Fill you glass with about six to eight ounces of pumpkin beer. Add one to two scoops of pumpkin ice cream (depending upon how creamy you want it to be) and wait for the magic to happen. The beer and ice cream will react and you’ll get a nice creamy, frothy head. Garnish with a sprinkle of Nutmeg, serve and wait for applause.
