So, it turns out that I love, I mean LOVE, Old Fashioneds. In fact, I’d have to say it’s my go-to cocktail, my desert island cocktail. The only problem is that my frequent Old Fashioned cocktailing often leads to a bunch of deflowered oranges (i.e. their rinds have been stripped), which sadly sometime end up turning moldy before being repurposed.
I had a bunch of leftover blueberries following the Fourth of July and after making endless smoothies with them, I thought maybe an end of the work week cocktail was in order. I had also just bought two new bar tools, a spherical ice cube maker and a cocktail sieve, and was anxious to use them, so that was just another excuse for a cocktail.
So in case you haven’t noticed, it’s tax season – that great time of year when you find out how much you owe the good ol’ USA, or if you’re lucky, how much it owes you. So what better time than now to drown your sorrows in champagne and whiskey. Yes, you heard it right, champagne and whiskey together! Hell, this amazing combination might be the answer to world peace.
