I was promising myself that this summer that I would use more clear spirits in my cocktails, but I haven’t been very good about that, and instead have found myself reverting to my whiskey ways. But that all stops with this Vodka cocktail! One Sunday evening, I was looking at the mint and cucumber sitting around and thought, that screams Vodka, and the Cucumberbund Cocktail was born.
So, it turns out that I love, I mean LOVE, Old Fashioneds. In fact, I’d have to say it’s my go-to cocktail, my desert island cocktail. The only problem is that my frequent Old Fashioned cocktailing often leads to a bunch of deflowered oranges (i.e. their rinds have been stripped), which sadly sometime end up turning moldy before being repurposed.
I had a bunch of leftover blueberries following the Fourth of July and after making endless smoothies with them, I thought maybe an end of the work week cocktail was in order. I had also just bought two new bar tools, a spherical ice cube maker and a cocktail sieve, and was anxious to use them, so that was just another excuse for a cocktail.
I don’t drink a lot of sodas typically, but there is something about summer and Coca Cola that go together like no other. And, it’s often in the summer when I find myself indulging in a nice cold Coca Cola with a squeeze of lime. To me, there is nothing like it on a hot day.
